What can I expect?

Walk the winding roads that leads to the Pena Palace in Sintra. Here the walls are painted yellow and red and the feeling you get by just looking at the palace is so fairytale-like, that it may even remind you of Disneyland. Why is it like this, you may ask? Because the creator couldn't decide on a single style - therefore the palace is a mishmash of Romantic, Renaissance, Manueline and Moorish.

This mountain was actually a monastery until it was transformed into a private palace by King Ferdinand II. Take a look around the park, while you're here, and you'll discover why he chose this specific place. The surrounding Park of Pena is just as big of a treat for the curious, as the park contains exotic plant life and other secret treasures.

The gardens that are surrounding the Palace, are equally beautiful - they contain over 500 species of trees. Remember to stop and take in the stunning views over the Sintra Region, the western coastline and of course the city of Lisbon below.
